The Mask Mandate!

Ciao friends! After a long week of remote schoolwork and applying for jobs, I’ve returned to my blog. I’ve been working on this post for a while now, but felt it to be an extra-perfect time to share since the government has basically mandated that we all go outside in masks now.

I know you’re probably pretty pissed about having to sport a super cute medical mask in public, instead of show off your new lipstick. Alas, we have to follow the rules (so that you can wear your new lipstick for people to SEE sooner rather than later). I decided to take it upon myself to start making masks for myself and my family members. Like most of the country, we’re unable to acquire the proper medical masks, since they’re sold out everywhere and the majority are going to those on the front lines (as they should).

If you’re in the same position as us, I’m sure you understand how unsafe it feels to make a grocery run without a mask. So! Finally the good stuff...I dug through my scraps of fabric to salvage enough to make several masks for us. I’m fortunate enough to have access to my sewing machine and an almost-bottomless pit of old fabric, so I was the designated mask-maker for the fam.

Here are some pics from the creative mask sesh I just had! (Oh, and if you’re a real one, you probably have seen some of this fabric before. #TBT to the Spanish 2 “Mercado” where I made and sold 20 pocket t-shirts.) Take a look at some of the masks I created. Snap a pic if you see one on the streets ;)

Almost forgot!!! I’m trying to figure out a way to donate these and/or supplies to those who are still working at “necessary businesses” because since they aren’t doctors/nurses, they might not have access to a supply of reusable masks. So I’m working on mass-producing and getting these out ASAP.
