When it’s July and you have school in August and you are completely not ready (clothes-wise) for it…
Could it be?!! Back to school season already!?! Wow. What a whirlwind this spring/summer has been! I’m going through my closet trying to make way for new BTS clothes (gotta look fresh on the Zoom calls), and I decided to make a little list of the basic pieces I’m planning to add/I’ve already purchased. It definitely helps me plan outfits by buying garments I think I’ll get a lot of use out of. If you’re indecisive when it comes to shopping (like moi), hopefully this list can help you get at least the basics down. My next post will include statement pieces/accessories that you can add to these pieces and spice up your outfits! Enjoy!
ZARA: Wide Strap Stretch Top
Solid tanks are one of the most commonly-found garment in the modern woman’s closet these days. Though shopping for the perfect one can be tedious and sometimes stressful, this round neck top is hands-down one of the most versatile and flattering styles. The wider, scoop neck helps to accentuate curves, while also cutting off any unwanted attention towards the under-arm region. PLUS this cute piece comes in a variety of colors! Whether it’s paired with sweat-shorts for a loungewear look, or with high-waisted trousers and a sleek blazer for a night look, it will elevate your style nonetheless! I straight up swear by this tank.
Petal and Pup: Padra Top
This cropped tank is absolutely perfect for summertime! With a unique neck detail and fitted look, the Padra Top will look flattering on any body type. Shown here, it looks great when paired with jeans, but could also be paired with summer-y culottes, shorts, and/or a tiered smock skirt.
Bershka: Corset-Style T-shirt
Though the weather might not necessarily call for a long-sleeve, this top is a MAJOR staple in a girl’s wardrobe. With the super flattering cut, it looks go with high-waisted jeans, shorts, and/or a flouncy skirt! Easy to dress up or down with some metallic jewelry and booties.
Steve Madden: Bertie White
If you aren’t a huge fan of AF1s, these are THE shoe for you! The Bertie shoe is not only sleek, classy, and SO versatile, but it’s also extremely easy to clean. I’ve only ever owned this pair as my go-to white tennies, and I’ve never looked back. Steve Madden is such a reputable company as well, so you know your shoes are going to be well-made and last a long time.
Levi’s: 501 Women’s Shorts
Every girl needs a trusty pair of denim shorts in order to get through the spring, summer, and fall months (especially for life in SoCal)! Though there are probably thousands of other types of jean shorts to choose from, my personal favorite (and one of the most reasonable pairs) are these Levi’s shorts. I have them in the black wash and I can’t even explain how critical they have been to my wardrobe in the past year! I recommend sizing up if you’re looking to attain that “cool-girl, loose-fit” style.
MOTHER:
Superior The Tomcat Ankle Fray Jeans
Though these jeans are definitely on the pricier side, they are some of the BEST jeans I have ever owned in my entire life. No joke, I have worn them probably at least three times a week. The Tomcats are one of my most prized possessions, and I definitely think it’s because of the amazing ability of MOTHER to create such beautiful garments. In finding my ‘perfect’ pair of jeans, I tried on probably 50 different styles, and it was the toughest decision! Almost all of them were flattering and fit VERY true to size. If you’re looking to splurge (and be socially responsible), MOTHER is 100% the right brand to add to your closet.
MADEWELL: Northside Vintage Tee
Everyone should have at least one or two staple t-shirts in his/her wardrobe. This particularly one by Madewell is super light-weight, flattering, and versatile. It comes in a variety of fun colors as well, if you’re looking to add more to your closet! AND *bonus points* it’s ethically-made. Click the image to shop!
BANANA REPUBLIC: Boyfriend-fit Linen-Blend Blazer
Because we all know that school/jobs are pretty much going to be online for a while, it’s important to look your best on Zoom calls! (From the waist up, of course.) I think investing in a good black blazer is something everyone should do in his/her early 20s because it’ll last a long time, and it can be dressed up or down! For example, this blazer can be paired with a white tee, jean shorts, and tennis shoes for a more casual look, OR it can be paired with fun pants, heels, and a bodysuit for a “going out” look.
